Ablectrics & Cinemaworks - Home cinema demo room upgrade
Posted on: 25 Nov 2024. Category: Home CinemaUpgrading our cinema - the perfect picture with JVC 8K
It’s two years since we launched our amazing cinema demonstration room at Ablectrics, working with Owen from Cinemaworks, and today we’re delighted to announce a major upgrade, with an 8K JVC NZ800 D-ILA projector.
Owen from Cinemaworks explains:
‘Our original Sony XW-5000ES unit is a great projector - detailed, dynamic, bright and colourful.'
However with our 3m width screen I really wanted extra brightness, especially useful when you’re watching with a bit of ambient light, or using one of the LED pixel lighting scenes in the cinema. The new JVC has 2700 lumens to the Sony’s 2000 - a 35% increase - and it really shows, the picture is nice and punchy even with the lights up a bit, so that maximises the usability of the room, making it even better for mixed-use and social watching, rather than just a dedicated movie room.’
‘It’s also an upgrade in many other areas - the new projector supports 8K resolutions and uses enhanced video processing to deliver extra detail even when you’re watching 4K and HD material. The lens system is all-glass and that really shows up in extra detail and clarity when you’re watching. Finally, the advanced tone-mapping onboard really gets the best from HDR video - this is what third-party video processors do, but the JVC NZ800 has it onboard.’
Early in 2025 we’ll also be adding a custom-made port glass to completely remove the projector noise from the cinema room itself. That’ll be a massive audio upgrade - the room is already very quiet since the projector lives next door, but when it’s silent you can hear every whisper and every breath, which enhances the emotional impact of the piece.

Posted on: 26 Jan 2023. Category: Home CinemaMeridian Special Edition DSP5200 Loudspeaker
The Reference series represent the pinnacle of Meridian’s loudspeaker design and development programme, making them the most advanced loudspeakers that Meridian has produced to date. Built by hand in the UK, the Meridian Reference Special Edition range feature Digital Signal Processing (DSP) technology. This ingenious, yet elegant design means that the loudspeaker enclosure contains the entire system’s electronics including its amplification. In common with the other loudspeakers in the Special Edition series, a suite of innovative Meridian technologies are also built in.
The DSP5200SE contains a complete matched audio system, giving the highest overall quality, lower power consumption and the performance of a traditional passive loudspeaker eight times the physical volume. Finished as standard in a piano lacquer black, the Special Edition Range is also available in any of the 270 Meridian Select colours. The range offers a choice of full range floor standing or horizontal centre channel options, for audio or home cinema solutions.
TRUE TIME
True Time is Meridian's proprietary Apodising Filter that avoids pre-ringing and cleans up the effects of early filters, converting pre-echo to post-echo.
TRUE LINK
Meridian True Link is an encryption method for transferring high-definition digital audio over SPDIF connections. It allows secure movement of digital audio whilst ensuring that the SPDIF clock signal can be transmitted with minimum degradation.
FREE-Q
Meridian Free-Q is used to compensate for acoustic problems associated with specific loudspeaker placement conditions.
We have a working pair of these speakers on display in our Bristol showroom to see and hear their quality. We also have our dedicated Home cinema setup where we can arrange a full consultation and design. We also offer a Lighting design service which can include Rako home automation
